Description:	This article addresses the importance of the Human Rights Ombudsman and its implications in the university environment. The objective was to explore the level of information and knowledge about human rights in a group of students from the University of Sonora, Mexico. Four groups were from Ethics and Professional Development, one from the Tax Law Seminar, and another from Administrative Law, in which issues related to human rights were addressed within their subject programs and the impact it represents on Higher education. Among the findings, it was found that the students had extensive knowledge of university human rights documents and agreements. El presente artículo aborda la importancia de la Defensoría de los Derechos Humanos y sus implicaciones en el entorno universitario. Se planteó como objetivo explorar el nivel de información, y conocimiento sobre los derechos humanos en un sector de estudiantes de la Universidad de Sonora, México.Se seleccionaron seis grupos  del Programa de licenciatura en derecho de las asignaturas Ética y Desarrollo Profesional,  Seminario de Derecho Fiscal y Seminario de Derecho Administrativo,se abordaron temas relativos a los derechos humanos dentro de sus programas y el impacto que representa en la educación Superior.Los  principales  hallazgos: amplio conocimiento de los estudiantes sobre temas relacionados con ordeamientos jurídicos y acuerdos relativos a los derechos humanos,especialmente en el ámbito  universitario así como la  fuente de la que proviene dicho conocimiento
